Boskone 2012
For those of you that didn’t know, my favorite sci-fi (if not favorite period) author John Scalzi was the author guest of honor at Boskone this weekend. He has written a, at this point, rather famous series of books starting with Old Man’s War and ending with Zoe’s Tale (I started with the last one and went back to the beginning. I love them all). He’s also written such books as Android’s Dream where, in the first chapter, a man farts somebody to death (you read that right) and Redshirts (coming out in a few weeks) where the security detail (who wear red shirts) on the star ship began to figure out that maybe going on away missions with certain crew members isn’t the best idea.
So, when I say that I was excited for Boskone, you understand why. I went to almost every single one of his panels (there was a good reason for missing the one I did), I asked questions when he was being interviewed and again when he was reading and had run out of material. I got to tell him I was a huge fan and I got my picture taken with him (admittedly, it’s a terrible picture, but still).
The only thing I didn’t get to do was get one of my books signed. His signing was moved then cancelled because he had to catch a flight home. I do feel considerably better about it because I did buy a book of his that was signed, but to have a personalized copy of Old Man’s War or Zoe’s Tale would have been fantastic.
Still, this was a fantastic Boskone.
